Granaxa 2023 – Minervois Red

Bottle price: €16.00

The original name of the grape is used here to recall that, long ago, knowledge was passed down through languages of great beauty.

The very sound of Granaxa seems to echo the playful grain of its tannins on the tongue. The French ending (“xa”) evokes the luminous sparkle of the wine’s freshness, while its original pronunciation (“cha”) lifts the soft velvets of its robe to reveal the generous flesh beneath.
Deliberately bold and seductive, this androgynous wine hides its winter retreat in wood and stoneware in the family’s ancestral cellar. When decanted, it reveals without extravagance a bouquet of red and black fruits — redcurrant, blueberry, morello cherry, and wild sloe liqueur.

The harmonious balance between fruit and tannin is delicate; a serving temperature that’s too low or a restless journey will unsettle it.
It shines best alongside fine poultry from Bresse or flavorful beef from Salers. Time will serve it well for several years.

TERROIR: Single-parcel cuvée. From “La Coquille,” a lacustrine limestone plot rich in fossil shells, at 400 meters altitude.

GRAPE VARIETIES: 90% Grenache, 10% Syrah.

VITICULTURE: Biodynamic and agroecological farming with cover crops, gentle pruning, debudding, vine braiding, and treatments based on plants, herbal teas, fermented extracts, sulfur, essential oils, and just a touch of copper (total over 5 years: 4 kg).

VINIFICATION: Manual harvest, destemming, gentle infusion in stainless steel tank for 7 to 10 days. Pressed before the end of alcoholic fermentation. Free-run and pressed juices complete both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations in 500L demi-muids of several previous wines and in stoneware jars.
All components are blended in April, once awakened by spring.

AGEING: 6 months in demi-muids and stoneware jars, then 3 months in stainless steel before bottling.

TASTING NOTES:
Grenache here offers a beautiful expression of fresh, crunchy red fruits. Perfectly integrated with a touch of barrel ageing that brings notes of coffee and chocolate, and supported by a hint of Syrah, this wine is an ideal companion to your gastronomic discoveries.
