Ancient Soils

A Roussanne vine grows slowly on these soils of schist and quartzitic sandstone. The bedrock is extremely old, dating from the Precambrian. It is a geological anomaly: the older primary rocks emerge above the younger Tertiary formations.

The soil is shallow and bedrock breaks through in places, creating a very inhospitable environment for a vine. With low yields, the juice becomes concentrated, giving this Roussanne an unusually vivid, mineral and concentrated expression.

Between the Limestone Plateaux and the Mountains

This is the last plot planted to vines before reaching the terroirs of the Montagne Noire. Here the climate begins to change: nights are cooler, rainfall more plentiful and humidity higher. Together, these factors extend the vine's ripening cycle, allowing it to take its time concentrating its flavours and to yield juice of surprising intensity.
